The Indian Medical Association (IMA) successfully lobbied to have hospitals with fewer than 50 beds moved from the Orange category to the
Green Category. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) offers incentives for the Green Category, including lower renewal fees, less environmental surveillance, and a longer validity period for consents and authorizations. State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs) and Pollution Control Committees (PCCs) may grant consent to operate (CTO) for up to 15 years to industries in the Green Category, with inspections required at least once every two years. Additionally, Green Category sectors are generally permitted in most areas.
