The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Indian National Hospital Board (NHB) are co-hosting a
National Insurance Summit on August 17, 2025, to discuss problems and solutions related to insurance.
The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has initiated a common empanelment drive with a goal to bring 4,000 hospitals under a cashless structure with costs aligned to government health schemes like PMJAY. The IMA believes this common empanelment drive will be detrimental to hospitals, as the current rates and government scheme rates are baseless and lack scientific costing. The IMA argues that hospitals, as the most important stakeholders, were not consulted before this decision was made. Therefore, the IMA advises hospitals to refrain from signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) until they receive clarity and a revised rate list based on scientific cost analysis.
